Lost.

I lost Froggy.  The cute cuddly stuffed animal that has been going home with each child along with a book for the last four months.   He is gone - fell out of our car in a busy parking lot.
Today, our outdoor teacher Misty returned from a month with her family.  Sarah was asked to catch Misty up on what happened to Froggy.  The class is, of course, saddened by the missing frog {note the expressions on the little faces}.

Teacher Kathy turned tragedy into a teaching moment.  We brainstormed with the kids on what to do about our situation.  We had a range of responses including one suggesting we hold a house-to-house search looking for him.

Last week they held a vote:  Get a new frog, replace froggy with some other kind of animal or search for him.  Each child had a block to put into one of these catagories.  Replacing Froggy was the clear winner.

Today the kids listed no less than eight replacement ideas.  Tomorrow, they vote on which one will replace Froggy.

Teacher Kathy is great - what a way to have the kids identify solutions, work through the options and make choices.  She really is my hero.
