Bonded.
Today we drove down to my Grandad's farm in Gaston, Oregon. I try to get there at least 6-8 times a year because Sarah and Grandpa adore each other. He's the apple of her eye, and she makes him smile.
So different from what I remember of my great-grandparents. They were really old people. Smelling of graham crackers, vicks vapo rub and denture powder. Unable to move around, uninterested in and slightly scary to small children.
At almost 92, Grandpa gets around. He keeps himself busy on the farm, doing what he can do to keep the gardens up. He loves his animals, old-school country music and the Rural Television channel (I didn't know it existed either, but it does).
He even gives driving lessons to five-year-olds on the Cub Cadet tractor.
I love the expressions here - she's filled with excitement to be driving. And he looks like he's got a secret - smugly enjoying her excitement. Sweet.
