Pocketbook.
Sarah's friend Christopher has a baby sister - Abby. She's turning two in about a week.
When Sarah heard we were invited for an intimate birthday party, she immediately wanted to make something for Abby.
We went into my studio - we call it the green room {it's green}.
I recently bought a new sewing machine for myself and handed down my workhorse - a 1962 Elna Super Blue Top.
Sarah talks to Elna. A. Lot. Together with a spool holder dubbed "Spooner", Sarah and Elna have a good time. Whole conversations about how to thread the machine, the tickle of the thread as it moves through it's winding path and into the fabric.
Sarah pulled the yellow fabric from my scrap stash - it was quite large [for a scrap] and when folded, started to make a good rectangle. She stitched up the bottom and loose ends. We folded down the top edge and she sewed that too.
At that point, Sarah announced she was done. Also, her dad just got home, so she was ready to hang out with him for a bit. Before she left the studio, she chose the ribbon strap, and instructed me to put it on. So I did, along with a red, fabric covered button from my great-aunt Elma's handed-down stash and a shiny, silver, stretchy loop.
We think it came out pretty cute.
